    Snails Unclassified

Bumblebee Snails, Engina mendicaria, are an excellent member of the clean up crew responsible for maintaining a healthy marine aquarium eco system. These small reef safe snails spend much of their time moving through the rockwork and across the substrate, helping to consume detritus, uneaten meaty foods and other organic waste before it has a chance to affect water quality. Their small size allows them to get into tighter spaces that larger clean up crew species may miss, making them a very useful addition to reef and marine aquariums alike. Bumblebee Snails are particularly popular for customers looking for a snail that will help with meaty waste and general scavenging, rather than focusing mainly on algae. They may also help with certain nuisance snails such as vermetids, although they should not be relied upon as the sole solution for pest control. As a low maintenance species, they are well suited to beginners and experienced marine keepers alike, provided they are kept in a mature marine aquarium with stable water conditions, live rock and suitable areas to forage. These snails are excellent for a reef set up as they are not interested in harming corals, fish or other peaceful tank mates. If natural food sources become limited, their diet can be supplemented with sinking meaty foods and other suitable marine preparations. Bumblebee Snails require very little direct maintenance and are a popular choice for helping to keep marine and reef aquariums cleaner and tidier.

    Nassarius sp.

Nassarius Snails Nassarius sp. are a fantastic addition to any marine aquarium clean-up crew and are highly valued for both their usefulness and interesting behaviour. Unlike traditional algae-grazing snails, Nassarius snails are active scavengers that spend much of their time buried beneath the sand bed, waiting for food to appear. As soon as they detect uneaten food or organic waste in the water, they quickly emerge from the substrate, making them one of the more fascinating invertebrates to observe within a reef aquarium.
