Overview:
The Albino Neon Tetra is a rare and delicate-looking variant of the classic neon tetra, featuring a soft pinkish-white body, pearly sheen, and red eyes, with a faint shimmer of the species’ trademark blue and red stripe. It has the same peaceful schooling nature as the standard form, but with a unique, ethereal appearance that stands out beautifully in planted or community aquariums.
Origin:
The wild-type Paracheirodon innesi comes from the blackwater and clearwater streams of the Amazon Basin in Brazil, Peru, and Colombia. The albino form is a captive-bred strain developed through selective breeding.
Feeding:
Omnivorous and easy to feed. Will accept micro flakes, nano pellets, and crushed granules, along with frozen or live foods such as baby brine shrimp, cyclops, and daphnia. A varied diet helps maintain health and subtle coloration.
Tank Mates:
Exceptionally peaceful and perfect for small to medium community tanks. Best kept in schools of 8 or more for natural behavior and confidence. Ideal tank mates include other small tetras, rasboras, Corydoras, dwarf gouramis, and peaceful shrimp species.
Water Parameters:
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–26°C)
pH: 5.5–7.0
Soft to moderately soft water
Minimum Tank Size: 15–20 gallons
Prefers planted tanks with dim or subdued lighting
Behavior & Personality:
Peaceful, active midwater swimmer
Shows best colors in darker substrates and natural setups
Thrives in stable, well-maintained aquariums
Special Notes:
More light-sensitive than standard neon tetras—floating plants help provide shade
Rare in the hobby compared to wild-color forms
Excellent for nano aquariums or South American biotope setups
Hardy when acclimated to stable, soft, acidic water
The Albino Neon Tetra offers all the charm of the beloved neon tetra, but with a soft, glowing elegance that makes it a standout addition to peaceful planted aquariums.
