The Wild Bristlenose Pleco is a hardy, algae-eating freshwater catfish, easily recognized by its bristled snout (more pronounced in males) and bottom-dwelling habits. Active and peaceful, it is a functional and visually appealing addition to community aquariums.
Native to South America, particularly the Amazon Basin, inhabiting rivers, streams, and floodplain areas with submerged wood, rocks, and dense vegetation.
Omnivorous. Primarily grazes on algae and biofilm but will accept vegetables (blanched zucchini, cucumber, spinach) and high-quality sinking pellets. Supplement with occasional protein-rich foods for growth and health.
Peaceful and compatible with most community fish, including tetras, rasboras, corydoras, and dwarf cichlids. Avoid aggressive or very large species that may harass them.
Low. Territorial only when breeding; otherwise, peaceful. Provides natural cleaning of algae in the tank.
Beginner to intermediate. Hardy, adaptable, and suitable for a wide range of freshwater community setups.
